DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD EXPEDITION CAMPS

OAC offers guided instruction and assessment for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition component, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

Adventure Based Expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh Award

Our Duke of Ed programs are adventure based and designed to provide participants with outdoor challenges requiring a high level of self reliance. Through the Expedition experience, participants gain understanding of and improvement in the following skills and processes:

  • Communication, consultation, teamwork and leadership
  • Planning and preparation
  • Estimation of resource requirements (shelter, equipment, time, food and water etc)
  • Observation, evaluation and record-keeping
  • Problem Solving

Adventure Program Options

Our Duke of Ed programs are physically demanding and incorporate a range of adventure options in a bivouac and expedition program. Participants receive training in various outdoor skills and activities including:

  • Safety and safe practice in the Australian bush
  • Basic First Aid (relevant to bush camping)
  • Necessary equipment and how to use it
  • Campsite selection, campcraft and overnight bivouac camping
  • Campsite cooking involving preparation and cooking of food
  • Environmental care
  • Map to ground navigation
  • Canoeing
  • Abseiling
  • High and low ropes courses
  • Raft building and raft races

Guide Accreditation

Our camp guides and instructors are qualified in outdoor recreation or industry equivalent and have extensive experience in working with school students in a residential camp setting. All staff have Working with Children clearance through the NSW Department of Sport & Recreation.
